Landmine Monitor determined that some new mines were laid by government forces on the Myanmar side of the border.

The following videos were provided from cell phone recordings taken by a Myanmar national who fled northern Rakhine State for Bangladesh.

The cellphone video was provided to the Monitor by Frontier Myanmar journal. All are MP4 files, they may play on your browser if the appropriate codecs are installed, if not download and play on video player on your phone or computer.

1 The first video shows refugees attempting to detonate landmines found on a regularly used border path with a long bamboo poll. Afterward, the refugees pick up the landmines, one with a shovel, the other by hand and remove them so that no one becomes victimized by them.

5. GRAPHIC WARNING The next video is very difficult to watch. It is a very graphic image of a woman who just lost both her legs to an antipersonnel landmine in Myanmar being carried to medical assistance in Bangladesh.

6. Same mine victim as in previous video, but seen at a distance being carried across a stream to medical assistance in Bangladesh. As the women on the other side of the stream see her, and her condition, they begin to wail.
