AP: Elephant wounded in Burma landmine explosion (Bangkok) 13 September 2011

Another elephant injured by a landmine has been brought to the Friends of the Asian Elephant hospital in Lampang, Thailand.

It joins three other elephants who were victims of mines in Burma. Fourteen such landmine casualties have been treated by the unique elephant hospital in northern Thailand.

Although the article states the elephant ‘wandered’ across the border, most elephants injured by mines are being used in the illegal timber trade.
