Hammond, C., Telecoms companies take on landmines Myanmar Times, 18 September 2015

All post war countries have to confront building or rebuilding or expanding necessary infrastructure such as roads, railways and power or other utility lines. If mines were used during a war, they form an obstacle to infrastructure creation.

This is the first media article to address this problem, which is a looming one for Myanmar/Burma. That the companies currently intend to rely on information from government and local people is not adequate. As one mine action operator notes in the article, that is dangerous.

Information on mined areas is currently unavailable, and the authorities have prohibited surveys of any kind. In its 2015 Landmine Monitor report (Nov. 2015), the International Campaign to Ban Landmines will list 55 townships in the country with some level of landmine contamination.
