The Myanmar Police were reported to have recorded 90 landmine casualties in Kachin State during 2015, according to a Myanmar Eleven news report. 79 of the victims were injured but survived, 11 of them died. The news report interviewed a local activist from Sarmaw village tract, who stated that in his area most people were victimized by mines laid in the forest while searching for bamboo and fish. He alleged that the mines were laid by both the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and government troops. He further stated that none of the mine victims in his area had received any compensation or financial assistance.
