The Indian Army has warned the local population living near the Indian-Myanmar border in southern Mizoram State to avoid venturing to border areas after mine casualties occurred. The Indian Army attributed the casualties to new use of antipersonnel mines by either Arakan Army or Myanmar Army involved in armed conflict in the area.
The casualties occurred in the border area of nortwest Paletwa Township of Chin State, near the tri-border junction. It is unclear if the casualties were on Indian or Burmese soil. Indian media attribute atleast one death and one inury in January and one injury in February to the landmines.
